Alexis Moran
Born in Berkeley California in 1979, Alexis Moran is a fourth generation Bay Area native with an eclectic artistic lineage. Her great grandfather and uncle were responsible for monumental art-glass installations in San Francisco’s City Hall, Olympic Club, Neiman Marcus, and Palace Hotel Garden Court that remain as spectacular today as when they were first installed in the early 1900s. Growing up with her parents, a video effects designer, and a highly regarded professional chef, Alexis attended public schools in the East Bay.
Alexis studied Industrial Design at Georgia Tech, and then returning to California joined the California College of the Arts (CCA) Wood/Furniture program, graduating with honors in 2005.
She has described her whimsical furniture designs as intended “to encourage playful behavior in adults” Her strikingly innovative tabletop designs clearly exhibit a unique ability to combine function and sculpture to make intuitive, useful, and beautiful pieces.
First working with concrete for her senior thesis at CCA, Alexis became mesmerized by the properties of this natural material, and its design possibilities. Upon graduation, she sought and found a position in the high-end pre cast concrete industry, and for the past year has been using concrete as the medium for her work.
Alexis is currently designing a product line for Concreteworks, a design and fabrication firm specializing in crafted concrete, as well as accepting private commissions.
