Oysters & Concrete from Coast to Coast: Short & Main

Nico Monday, collaborator on the Concreteworks Nido wood burning pizza oven contacted Concreteworks to create unique bartops for his new restaurant Short & Main in Gloucester, Massachusetts, which opened early May 2013.

Short and Main, a pizza and raw bar focused restaurant was opened by Nico with wife Amelia, both formerly of Chez Panisse in Berkeley, Ca. alongside Howie Correa and Matt Cawley.

To create the bartop for Short & Main Luc Chamberland of Saltwater Oyster Depot in Inverness, Ca. donated bags of oyster shells to Concreteworks. The shells were crushed and scattered throughout the dark warm grey surface to add dimension, contrast, and intrigue to the bar tops.

The bar top around the kitchen has integrated shellfish basins to hold ice and the fresh shellfish to be shucked and served.

If you get a chance stop by Short & Main for fresh oysters, hot wood-oven baked pizza, and some tasty cocktails!
